I think what turned me off of this is all the fanboys who, instead of letting Killzone 2 be its own game, demanded that it play more like CoD. Even after the patch that fixed the input lag, people wouldn't let KZ2 be because they wanted it to be "Call of Duty: Future Warfare" instead of what it was.
For some reason, I haven't been excited about this game at all, but seeing reviews, maybe i'll have to check it out. Probably a rental for me though, because i don't get much chance to play online, and i hear the campaign is pretty short. Then again, if the harder settings are a decent, but reasonable, challenge... AAAaaaaarrrrrggggghhhhh!!! Too many good games out this year!
BTW, if you buy this at Toys "R" Us (before 2:00 today only) and join their rewards program...
The only common criticism i recall seeing about UC2 is lack of innovation, but I don't think anyone docked points for it. KZ2, though, i remember a lot of places talking about its lack of innovation and its short campaign (actually not short for an fps), and docking points from it for those.
The default setting on PS3 is for "limited" which IS correct for almost all TV's. The problem, though, comes in that if you are doing screen-shot captures, you are going to be doing it on a computer, and the proper setting for computer monitors is "full." When i bought my HDTV in January i did some research on this on avforums and other places, and it was consistently stated that "limited" is for TV, "full" is for computer monitors. So for screen gra...
I will be disappointed if anyone other than Nathan Fillion gets the role of Drake (he's practically already played him), but i do believe that Hugh Jackman could pull it off. The good news that would go along with Hugh Jackman as Drake is this: it would show that they are really taking this movie seriously as a blockbuster potential film, which is what the franchise deserves.
My picks, though, are these:
Nathan Drake: Nathan Fillion
Elena Fisher: Emily Rose or Jewel ...
The word "patch" implies a fix, while "title update" implies a simple improvement. Patches are good, don't run from the name. Nobody can predict all the issues that will come up in an online game, so patches exist to FIX them when they do.
Leeger, that was a great analogy.
I think when other developers have said they "maxed out" the PS3, they mean that they've "filled the box," and what Insomniac is saying here is that it will be a couple years before everyone figures out the most efficient way to fill the box and get the most into it.
By that logic, Microsoft should not have been charging $50/year for Live up to now, because it had less features before.
I, for one, WANT a system that continues to impress me as time goes on. Just look at PS3 owners right now. We have the incredible Uncharted 2, but are still looking forward to Heavy Rain, God of War III, Gran Turismo 5, The Last Guardian, etc. because of gameplay and impressive graphics. If things were "maxed out" right away, every game this gen wo...
He isn't being nasty, he is discussing civilly. If you think he's wrong, say why, but please return the courtesy he has shown here.
I don't know anything about this stuff, but i have heard the same elsewhere. However, when i look out over Nepal from the hotel rooftop in UC2 and see that much of that view is rendered in 3d, not as a static 2d image, i can't help but think that what the PS3 has is doing pretty well for it.
Interesting idea. Remember that the PS3 has one completely unused SPU that was included for redundancy. If Sony decided that there are enough working SPU's in people's machines, maybe they would unlock that one for devs to use. Perhaps even make a way to utilize the SPU that is reserved for the OS, too. Might come down to the fail rate on SPU's, though. Maybe one in eight fail, so that's why they included an extra.
I love Jennifer Aniston, but i wonder if she has too much "star power" to play a supporting role like Elena. She would take too much attention in what should be an ensemble cast (Jeremy Irons would still work as a strong villain). Gwenyth Paltrow pulls it off in movies like "Iron Man" and "Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow," though, so maybe.
@ Quackpot: I can't help it, but when i look at Ryan Reynolds, i see Van Wilder, even though i've neve...
They could use the game's cast. They could practically render the thing with the Naughty Dog Engine 2.0, too. I think it would limit the audience, but it would be nice for us fans.
I think if Sony really throws support behind this, and if Naughty Dog keep their hands in there, this has potential to be the next Indiana Jones. Likable, everyman protagonist who gets by on wits and luck? Check. Globe trotting adventure? Check. Nazis? Check. Just throw a good script, director, and cast at it, and i think you've got gold.
It's not really 7-8 hours of writing because a lot of the game was, of course, gameplay, much of which digressed from the essential story. I think with the right writer the movie script could turn out just fine, and hopefully better than that.
Nathan Drake: Nathan Fillion, hands down
Elena Fisher: Emily Rose or other "firefly" alum Jewel Staite
Sully: Blackpanther25 has a good pick in Bruce Campbell (watch Burn Notice), otherwise the guy who plays him in the game would be a great pick, too.
Gabriel Roman: Jeremy Irons is the best person i can think of who can come across as a bastard while speaking with a British accent.
Atoq Navarro: I've seen a picture of Benjamin Bra...
I think you are referring to somerandomdude, not Rampant, but the reason he compared it to Gears 1 instead of Gears 2 is because he was pointing out that Gears 1 is the second highest selling (not fastest selling) 360 exclusive after Halo 3, and Uncharted 2 is, according to this article, selling on par with that title. He was trying to point out that good games can have strong sales without selling 2 million copies in one day.
Also, Uncharted 2 IS astonishing.
Interesting info. Bubble to you.
Certain people want to compare everything to Halo, and declare it a failure if it doesn't live up to those numbers. What they ignore, though, is that Halo is an anomaly. I'm sure Halo deserves its wild success (never played it myself), but it's kind of like saying that you're a failure if you're not a billionaire.
Thank you for pointing out that a game doesn't have to sell as fast as the fastest selling entertainment product of all...
I'm am hoping that Sony really throws support behind the movie. I think the franchise has the potential to become the next "Indiana Jones" if they get a good script, good director, and a good budget.
Oooh, it would probably never happen, but I think Joss Whedon would be a good fit for this franchise, especially for dialogue. Have him work with Naughty Dog's writers (did Amy Hennig do the writing?), and his experience with movies could really help.
Just checked Metacritic, and Uncharted 2 had just as many perfect scores as not. 14 perfect scores, 14 less than perfect, with nothing lower than 90.
Some guys spend their time watching football, or riding motorcycles, etc. I play video games. At the end of the day, that football game has been watched, that motorcycle has been ridden, that video game has been played, and we have all enjoyed the time we spent doing something that could be called pointless.
